Building Future Families was founded in 2015 as a response to a simple truth: caregivers needed a safe place to speak openly about their experiences in foster care, adoption and kinship. What began as a community of shared stories has grown into a statewide advocacy organization influencing policy, practice, and public understanding.
Our founder, Denise Blakney, is a retired foster parent and an adoptive parent whose lived experience revealed the gaps, inconsistencies, and systemic failures that families face every day. Her journey—marked by resilience, faith, and a commitment to truth—became the foundation for BFF’s mission: to ensure no caregiver walks this path alone and no family is silenced by the system meant to support them.
